These staves are shipped from Italy and come with the bark still on. They are premium staves and have a perfect ratio. They generally measure 80" x 2" x 2" Backing Woods Hickory backs The backing strips are smoothed and ready to glue. They generally measure 84" x 1. They generally measure 85" x 1. It is a good way to get into making your own bow. The bow is made from Hickory, Hardwood Core and Lemonwood. The trees grow straight and round and the grain runs true, making it possible to saw out staves with the grain running from end to end.

While it may be better to make a Lemonwood bow with the grain running flat, in practice it doesn't seem to make any difference whether the grain runs flat, diagonally or some other way. This is such a hard, dense, close grained wood, that the direction may be ignored. In my shop Lemonwood Bowstaves are prepared in various ways.
